John Doerper sent these photos of an early visitor to his backyard in Bellingham, Washington. As you can see from this photo, he has no problems feeding. He must be healthy or he would not have been able to make the long journey north! Rufous hummers are feisty birds. This bird's bill may have been damaged during a fight at the feeder.
