Rubythroat Hummingbird Map Questions
(Teachers: Map is hotlinked for larger projection on smartboard or screen.)

This week let's explore the March 2 weather map. The Hs and Ls represent high and low pressure centers. The colored lines represent fronts: dividing lines between cold and warm air.

air moves counterclockwise around Low pressure center

The air around a low pressure system moves counter-clockwise. Find the L pressure center located above the Gulf coast. Use your marker to draw arrows in a counter-clockwise direction around the Low pressure center.

1. The arrows represent the direction the air is moving. Does this wind direction help or slow down the rubythroats' migration?

2. What weather events need to happen before we will see lots of rubythroats arrive on US soil?
