Observations from Citizen Scientists:
Week Ending March 28, 2012

Use your Journal: What thoughts and questions do you have when you read these selected reports?

March 24: Maple Ridge, British Columbia
First Rufous male Hummingbird for 2012. This male has been here last year as he knew immediately exactly where to fly to looking for the Hummingbird feeders filled with sugar water.

March 24: Snoqualmie, Washington
Rufous made it to the foothills! Spring is so late this year that we were about to give up. Rufous arriving at Snoqualmie Ridge today has given us hope.

March 23: Ashford, Washington
Still snow on ground here between Ashford and Mt. Rainier National Park. Elev 1952. The male Rufus right on time this year. My feeders are out.

March 26: Lakeland, Florida
I am reporting this as my first migrant, although I have been seeing a female in this part of my yard for the last couple of weeks. That one never used the feeder but this one has been feeding routinely all day long as though she is really hungry.

March 26: Jonesboro, Georgia
I have been looking for my little hummingbirds to come back. In the last week, we have put out our spring flowers and today it happened! Welcome back!

March 26: McKinney, Texas
One landed on feeder about 8 AM today. Looking forward to the rest to arrive.

March 26: Bellingham, Washington
Even though the rufous have arrived, the Anna's are still here, too -- and feistier than ever.

March 25: Copperas Cove, Texas
First female of the season hit my feeders before dark on March 25th, 2012. Not sure of the species. Only one other is here so far, a male Black-chinned.

March 26: Wimberly, Texas
I have birds visiting during the day but at dusk there are so many hummingbirds I cannot count them all. I believe it is because of last year's drought when they had no flowers they had only my feeders.
