Learning from Our Banded Birds
On February 21, a beautiful Florida day, birdbander, Meret Wilson put up a net and caught one of her winter residents, a male rubythroat. "What a huge surprise to find the hummingbird had a band on its leg!" Meret copied the number and contacted the Bird Banding Laboratory. Within minutes she learned the bird had been banded at the Hilton Pond Research Center in York, S.C. — 457 miles away! |
