Spring Nectar
Hummingbirds continue to arrive along the southern coast after traveling the long journey across the Gulf of Mexico. Fortunately when they arrive in late spring there are flowering plants to help them refuel. One such flowering tree is the red buckeye, Aesculas pavia, a native in the southern US. Seeing flowers blooming in your area? Report to the nectaring map.

"My red buckeyes have been blooming for nearly two weeks. The Ruby-throats heading north have always loved their blooms. Red buckeyes are a relatively small tree — about 25 ft tall and about 20-30 ft wide at maturity and are native to many eastern, midwestern and southern states," reported Jessica in King George, Virginia on April 23rd.
