Tough Little Birds
Winter storms can be danerous for hummingbirds. This little Rufous stayed all winter in the Pacific Northwest where usually mild winters can quickly turn into ice storms. Fortunately this Rufous had enough food to survive. Debbie Stika brought in her feeder each night so it wouldn't freeze, then put it back each morning. Notice how the little rufous puffs out her feathers to keep well insulated and warm. She looks like a glowing ember!
