Orioles and Hummingbirds
Orioles start north later in the spring, but migrate faster than hummingbirds. They require much larger insects, such as caterpillars, which don't hatch until later in the spring when the buds leaf out. If you're not prepared with your jelly feeder, your first oriole is apt to be spotted drinking from the hummingbird feeder. Orioles often arrive at the same time as hummingbirds in more northern areas.

"Our first hummer came to the feeder, but did not land — as an oriole was already there trying to get at the food."

Baltimore Orioles sometimes share feeder nectar with hummingbirds.
