"Our country is bordered by three other nations. Our climate
is tropical; in the north of our country the climate is semiarid;
in the south of our country, where we are, the climate is hot and
humid."

"Our
country has a very long fence across one part of it to stop animals
with long ears. The name of our country begins and ends with the same
letter. Our specific state is named after a queen from another nation.
One of our state boundaries is a river that divides us from the adjacent
state. If you look closely at this picture taken from a hot air balloon,
near the top of the photo you can see the 'rip' or entrance to our
bay."

"In
our part of the country, we speak English but many also speak another
language too."

"Four
lakes border our province, and they're great. Our provincial flower
is the white trillium."

"We
don't have provinces or states, but our 'region' of the country
is bounded by an Ocean and a Sea and has many kilometres of rugged
cliffs, sandy beaches and sheltered harbours. The region is said
to be less than 100km across at its widest point and no part is
more than about 40km from the sea! Our region's land bears the name
of a compass direction. This region also has a famous beach that
streches for about 150 km, but it's name uses a different measurement.
The native people of this region might declare '...Ko Ngapuhi te
iwi...' which means that their tribe are the people of this land."

"Our country has provinces or states called 'oblasts'. The
oblast where we are located is named after the river valley it
is in, and the name sounds like an English eating word. In our
region there is this famous tower in the photo below, now part
of a historic musuem, that was part of the Great Silk Road.

"There
are no children here where we live. This photo is a place
several miles from our town called 'Castle Rock'".
|
"This
photo shows the active volcano that overlooks our town." |

"We
have very long winters, with long summer days. The next day, i.e.
tomorrow, is only about 45 miles away from us, and if you went there,
you could theoretically have one foot in today and the other in
tomorrow."

"We live on one of the largest islands in our country, which
has a peak that is said to be more than 4,300 ft/1300 m, and a river
that is said to be the longest in our country."

"Our
local economy is based around fish and fishing industries."
