Estimating Approximate Longitude using GMT Sunrise
Times
on the Spring Equinox
- These
sunrise times below are a clue to the Approximate Longitude
of each site. Print this page and use with today's
Mystery Class GMT Worksheet.
- This
table shows the time the sun rises at each Mystery location on March
20, 2005, the Spring Equinox. The time shown is NOT
the time of sunrise using the Mystery site's local time. Rather,
it gives you the time that it is in Greenwich, England when
the sunrise takes place at the specific Mystery Location. This is known
as Greenwich Mean Time or "GMT".
"Why
are dates included next to the times?"
NOTE: If the Mystery Class' SUNRISE TIME IN GMT is earlier
than the 3/20 sunrise in Greenwich (06:03 AM), then the location of the
Mystery Class will be in the EASTERN HEMISPHERE, east of Greenwich.
If the Mystery Class' SUNRISE TIME IN GMT is later than
the 3/20 sunrise in Greenwich, then the location of the Mystery Class
will be in the WESTERN HEMISPHERE, west of Greenwich.
That is why we have included the dates along with the GMT. A SUNRISE TIME
IN GMT that occurs on 3/19 is considered earlier than the 3/20 sunrise
in Greenwich.
