Introducing
Mystery Class #3--Galway,
Ireland
My name is Laura, and I teach very young students here in Galway City at a Montessori school. Galway City is in County Galway, in the west of Ireland, on the edge of the "Gaeltacht" (Irish speaking area). So, in addition to speaking English, many people here still speak Irish.
In Galway, our weather is very wet, but our lands are very green. Many people work as farmers here, but we also have many American companies with factories here in the medical and computer industries.
On some of the streets in Galway, automobile traffic is prohibited, so that the streets are for walking only.
Although we don't have big mountains here, it can be very rocky in some places and very green in other places. And sheep and cows are a big part of our landscape.
And our Galway city seascape includes a colony of swans that is world-renowned. And some of our community events are quite famous too, such as our Arts Festival in July, the horse races in August, and the Oyster Festiveal in September.
