Mystery Class Questions:
That Was Then, This is Now. Revisit Your Journey!

Think back to the beginning of Mystery Class. Do you remember how little you knew then about the secret locations, compared to how much you know now? Retrace the journey you took to narrow your search. Read the season summary below and complete the sentences with key terms and concepts from your journey. (Note: it's ok if you use some words more than once.)

During Weeks 1-5:
a) I started my search by first learning how to use the _____ data to calculate the _____ at each site. With each new set of data, I compared the weekly changes in _____ at each Mystery Class and at my own location too.

b) Some locations had photoperiods that _____ from week to week, while others had photoperiods that _____. From that information, I could determine if a location was in the _____ Hemisphere, or the _____. Locations with _____ing photoperiods were in the Northern Hemisphere, and those with _____ing photoperiods were in the Southern Hemisphere. Locations where photoperiod changed very little were near the _____. Investigating a location's north/south position is focusing on the _____ part of its global address.

c) I narrowed my search by comparing the photoperiod at each location to the photoperiod at _____ location. From this comparison, I could tell if a Mystery Class was _____ or _____ of my own location.

d) After graphing and tracking the Mystery Classes for several weeks, I was able to put them in order from _____to _____.

During Weeks 5 - 6:
I discovered that I knew a lot about the _____ of the Mystery Classes, but I still didn't know anything about the _____ . This is because tracking and graphing changes in the _____ does not tell you anything about _____.

During Week 7:
I finally learned how to estimate the _____ of the Mystery Classes. I did this by calculating the amount of time that passed on March ____ between _____ at _____ using UT and sunrise at a specific Mystery Class using UT. Once I knew this, I converted that amount of time into _____. I then divided that number by _____ and learned how many _____ away from Greenwich the specific Mystery Class was. Then I looked at the specific Mystery Class's UT sunrise time to see if it was earlier or later than the UT sunrise time at Greenwich, and told me if it was _____ or _____ . This calculation only worked on that date which was the vernal _____ this year.

During Weeks 8 – 11:
I learned even more about each Mystery Class when I received clues, which began more _____ and then became more _____. I learned many specific things about each Mystery Class, such as _____, _____, _____ and _____.
