The equator!
The equator is an imaginary horizontal line. It encircles the Earth like a belt. The equator marks the mid-point between the North and South Poles. The latitude of the equator is zero degrees.

Quito, Ecuador is near the equator. Many people travel to see a monument there called "la mitad del mundo" (the middle of the world). With one foot on each side of a red line, a person can stand in the Northern and Southern hemispheres at the same time!
