Our Country: Morocco
Morocco has long been a crossroads of culture. It is one of three kingdoms on Africa (the other two are Lesotho and Swaziland). Morocco is linguistically diverse. French, Berber, Modern Arabic, as well as Moroccan Arabic, known as Darija, can be heard all over Morocco due to it’s rich historical past.

In the early 1900's Morocco was colonized by Spain in the north and by France in the rest of the country. Independence was won in 1956, and over the 50 subsequent years Morocco has continued to develop its own cultural richness. The second largest desert in the world -- the Sahara -- runs through our country.

Daylight Saving Time is a new protocol for us. We've only been using it for a few years, and it is not something we are accustomed to yet. In fact, just recently, we learned suddenly that we would have to start using Daylight Saving Time that same week.

An interesting fact about Morocco is that it was the 1st county in the world to acknowledge the United States’ sovereignty and independence from Britain, and therefore we have the oldest US embassy in the world!
