Monarch Butterfly Migration

From the Monarch's winter home in Mexico:

18 de octubre de 2006

The very first monarchs seem to be arriving! Yes, it seems to be that it is so!

Today, my youngest brother saw a Monarch flying at the yard of our house! For some seconds she could be seen then she left.

Today, also, I was watching the news at noon time, and they officially announced that some Sanctuary colonies at the state of México --Sierra Chincua, most likely--, (bordering with Angangueo) have been declared as having seen the first manadas of Monarchs arriving to overwinter with us!

I need to confirm this and I also need to know about the Sanctuary of El Rosario, too.

After a whole week of rain and wind, after weeks scarcely having some sunshine, it seems that the rain season is almost over. Maybe two or three weeks more with some distanced rains but not more. In spite of the weather, temperatures were never under 12-15 Centigrade and now, cold mornings and evenings will come but with deep blue sky every day.

So it seems that I'll write back to you short after. None of the people I'm in contact with have come to tell me about any important sign of Monarchs arriving to our forests yet.

Until later, then.

María Estela.
