Hugging the Coast
Westerly winds can push monarchs toward the ocean. The butterflies often travel down the Atlantic coast to avoid being blown out to sea. Each of the three sites marked is a place where large numbers of monarchs get trapped by the surrounding water. Scientists are monitoring migration at these sites.
