Nectaring Intently
Monarch butterfies intently nectaring on False Willow, (Baccharis neglecta), growing adjacent to a dammed area of the Frio River in Garner State Park. These butterflies, totally unlike the ones nectaring on water-stressed Frostweeds in the old river channel were so docile they could be picked up by hand. We think this was due to more copious nectar in the Baccharis compared to the Frostweeds which were water-stressed. The distance between this Baccharis plant and the Frostweeds was only 1930 meters distant. (Way point 72. N29 34.768 W99 43.882).
