Water-stressed Frostweed
Frostweed growing in an old floodplain adjacent to the Frio River in Garner State Park. The soil here was much drier than in the lush Medina River floodplain, and the nectaring monarchs here were the most difficult to net in my 57 years of research! The lipid contents of these butterflies appeared lower than in the Medina collection. 13 October 2011. (Way Point 71. N29 35.603 W99 44.590).
