Still Laying Eggs
The breeding season is still underway. In many southern states, people rarely see monarchs in June or July. Sightings of monarchs in August are probably early migrants moving down from the north. The females lay eggs and produce a fall generation. We don't know how much the fall-breeding southern monarchs contribute to the overwintering population.

"First monarch sighted today laying eggs!" said Lori from Georgia. The next day she saw a monarch lay 30 eggs.
