Stopping to Eat
Monarchs can eat nectar from a wide variety of flowers. Unlike monarch caterpillars, who are specialists and eat only milkweed, adult monarchs are generalists. As they migrate to Mexico, monarchs must travel through diverse landscapes with a wide variety of flowers. They can stop for food in places as varied as Canada's northern prairies and Mexico's Chihuahuan Desert. What different nectar sources can monarchs stop to eat where you live?
