Appearing in the South
This female appeared in late July in Missouri where monarchs are scarce during the summer — and proceeded to lay eggs. The map shows the sudden appearance of breeding monarchs in central and southern states.
"First monarch of the summer sighted July 30th. Each day for the following week I saw one or two monarchs our native plantings."
