"Today I counted 606 monarchs in 10 hours of a stationary spot at the shoreline of Lake Huron. Weather was mostly sunny and winds were very light from the WSW. Temperature was 55°F at the start of the count at 9 a.m. and 63°F at the end of the count at 7 p.m., with a high of 65°F in between. Most of the monarchs flew 50-70' above the beach with a few at 300'. When the sun was out, the monarchs were high. With clouds around, the monarchs flew lower and some landed on the beach or nectared on goldenrod or white asters. This is the highest peak day I have had here since September 12, 2010, when I counted 517." —Frank Apsey
