People at 11,700 sites along the migration pathway have planted Monarch Waystations.

"Monarch butterflies face a food crisis on a very long road trip — their migration through the United States to California and Mexico. That lack of fuel can be solved if gardeners create way stations by planting food sources like nectar-producing flowers," says Dr. Chip Taylor of Monarch Watch who founded the program.
