By late October, most sightings are of single butterflies. Watch for reports from the Atlantic and Gulf coasts where large numbers may still be seen, like this report from Alabama.

"I saw at least 1,000 monarchs at the pier on Dauphin Island at about 5:30PM. They were feeding and then came in to roost on some tall grasses next to the pier. This picture only shows some of them. I went back next morning to watch them leave."
