Where do monarchs find water in the winter?
Discussion of Challenge Question #4

Students in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Minnesota did a terrific job thinking through this question. They figured monarchs might find water in rivers, swamps, ponds, puddles, in mud, in nectar, or maybe even in sap from trees. They identified the two categories from which monarchs do get their water:

Water from open sources: “I think monarchs get the water they need from rivers, lakes, and streams,” said Zake who comes from Minnesota, the land of 10,000 lakes.

Water from condensation: “We think that monarchs could get water from the morning dew or from frost,” said Kyle, Lilly, and Megan in Vermont.
