Oxford Elementary School
Oxford, Michigan

Dear Journey North,
Oxford, Michigan will definitely have plenty of milkweed plants to help out the monarch population! My students exceeded my expectations and decided they 'need to get the word out' regarding monarchs. We have ordered 12,000 milkweed seeds, packaged them, and are ready to distribute them around our local community.

On the bulletin board is a quote from my class that reads, "'We will get the word out about monarch butterflies, their beauty, and what they need to survive." This quote, to me, represents a culmination of ideas, resulting from the knowledge the students gained and the conclusions drawn by the students themselves throughout their study. They feel such urgency to make a difference, and they can't wait to pass out the milkweed seeds.

One particular student, Micah, took on a leadership role and made a monarch game, monarch questions and answers, and the "butterfly box" that often contains activities for the class-- of course always related to monarch butterflies! You can see a picture of Micah in front of a bulletin board that she made, holding her butterfly box.
