Warm Fronts Carry Monarchs Northward
Last week's maps show the conditions in which monarchs can move north quickly in the spring. Warm fronts, with their south winds, pump warm air from south to north—and often carry migrating monarchs with them. In the fall, cold fronts, with their north winds, carry monarchs southward.

Peak in jet stream centered over the Great Plains, south winds pump warm air mass northward. Monarchs surge into Oklahoma Arkansas, and even Missouri!
