Slow-Growing
Look at the tiny larvae! It took 12 days for them to hatch from eggs in Mrs. Dunagan's Illinois garden. (Eggs hatch in only 2-3 days during warm summer temperatures.) Monarchs develop slowly when it's cool, so they're exposed to predators longer.
