A Viceroy and a Monarch!

Viceroy
To identify a Viceroy, look for the black lines crossing the veins of the hindwings. This viceroy lit on a poplar sapling, one of its host plants.
Monarch
The monarch's hindwing does not have a line crossing the veins. This monarch's left wing is damaged. Click here to see. What could have made a hole this size and shape?
