Fresh Wings in Texas
Fresh-winged butterflies of the new generation are now being seen! Our first confirmed sighting—from eggs known to have been laid by a monarch from Mexico—was on April 10th. The butterfly came from the eggs Carol Cullar collected in Eagle Pass, Texas on March 17th. This means it took only 24 days for the monarch to complete its life cycle. Chuck Patterson took this picture in Driftwood, Texas. He observes, "We are still seeing monarchs daily; a good mix of new generation and travelers from Mexico."
