Early Sightings
Reports of monarch eggs, larvae, and adults from Texas in early March may be unrelated to the migrants coming up from Mexico. Monarchs are often present in the Texas Gulf region during the winter months, and there's evidence of early breeding such as this observation from Dobbin, Texas, near Houston.

"I saw two beautiful faded monarch females laying eggs on the milkweed plants (Asclepias viridis) in our pasture. I'm so glad, as just 2 days ago I could not find eggs on any of the milkweed, which itself is scarce due to late freezes in March."
