Crossing the Border
This monarch encountered territorial behavior after it arrived in Texas and attempted to settle down for the night.

As the monarch came down to rest, a pipevine swallowtail defending the tree his monarch remigrant of the spring just showed up in my backyard at 7:03 this evening, looking for a tree to roost in. I'm on a bluff above the Rio Grande about 200 yards east of the International Border across from Piedras Negras. Editor's Note: Monarch is pictured here with a pipevine swallowtail.
