Fading With Time
Monarchs born last August are now 8 months old. As they reach the ends of their lives, monarchs' torn and transparent wings show the effects of time. During these final days, they are spreading across the landscape laying hundreds of eggs.
"Walking in the pastures around noon to 1 pm I saw 10 monarchs, probably 7 were females as they seemed faded and the 3 that were bright were possibly males. The females fluttered low over the pastures stopping to lay eggs, while the males swooped around quite speedily. I took a brief survey of the milkweed and found 132 eggs."
