Last Sightings
Observers in Texas continued to report butterflies of the overwintering generation this week. During May, as temperatures climb and milkweed senesces in Texas, sightings will become fewer and fewer. The monarchs will leave the south and move into their northern habitat where breeding conditions are suitable.
"I saw this male monarch going from milkweed to milkweed nectaring on the flowers. With temperatures getting higher and winds drying everything, it is good that the monarchs can find sustenance. It is likely he is long-journeyed, as his wings are faded and have some tattered edges."
