On Stem
When milkweed is in short supply, a monarch will lay eggs wherever she can. The places she selects on the plant — and the number of eggs she lays on a single plant — break rules of convention when options are limited.
"What a day! I spotted the first newly emerging milkweed and then a single monarch. Next I found several more emerging milkweed, some with eggs. This particular plant had four or five eggs on its tiny stem."
