Near Tender Tip
The soft, flexible, tender tips of milkweed plants are a likely place to find monarch eggs. The plant tissue there — called meristem — contains actively dividing cells that don't have the rigid cell walls that mature cells do. When the eggs hatch, the tiny larvae will be able to feed on tender milkweed.

"I found 18 eggs found in total. For the most part, the female worked very hard to set the eggs on the underside of the top, innermost leaves. She left only one egg on each of the plants." Leslie Bertram    Darien, Illinois    May 27, 2014
