Rain and snow at the sanctuaries have delayed the monarchs' departure.

"It's a good thing the March 11th storm didn’t occur a couple of months ago, when temperatures were colder. Mortality in this storm would be from mechanical damange, not a freeze," said Dr. Lincoln Brower. "The butterflies are pretty tough, that’s the good news."
