Waiting for Signs of Migration
We're watching for the first signs of migration in Texas. The map already shows scattered sightings of monarchs there. However, those are overwintering butterflies, not migrants from Mexico. At this time of year, it's hard to distinguish an early migrant from a local butterfly. Observers watch for these clues: directional flight and wings that are faded, tattered and torn.
