Under Leaf
The majority of eggs are laid on the underside of a leaf, where they're well-hidden from potential predators. Anti-predator strategies are critically important. Fewer than 10% of eggs laid survive beyond the first instar caterpillar stage — and predation is the main cause of mortality.
