Many worn-winged butterflies arrived this week where milkweed was just emerging.
"Observed a very weathered female laying eggs on some Swamp Milkweed that is just popping up. I watched her for about a 1/2 hour and she would fly 50 - 100 feet away and then return to the miniscule milkweed. She looked old and tired - not so much a lot of wing destruction, but her color was very washed out. It is truly amazing to watch her FIND the milkweed because it is hardly visible. She laid at least 25 eggs!"
