Robins and Suet
It's unusual for robins to figure out such a novel way of getting calories. They learn how to obtain food during their first summer, fall and winter. When they're hungry, some do at least sample what they see other birds eating, and this robin learned that suet may taste unfamiliar at first but satisfies his hunger and keeps him going. A week later, this observer reported the snow gone but colder temps turning rain to ice. The robin was still regularly feeding on birdseed and suet bits under the feeders!
"Our resident robin has been regularly eating suet. Usually on the ground beneath the suet feeder but of late, fluttering up and attempting to hang on while getting suet."
