Males on the Move
Migrants arriving from the south are noisy and flighty, usually seen in small-to-medium waves. Males are first to arrive, with females following three to four weeks later. This proud bird exhibits the male's field markings: white eye ring, black-and-white striped throat, black head, and bright orange breast.
A male's beak is bright, and often tipped in black.
"There were 120-plus robins, foraging. It was a chilly 33 degrees after some overnight sleet, but yesterday was warm with a south wind that brought many migrants."
