Keeping Busy
What do robins do when they first arrive back on their territory in spring? In fine weather males sing, investigate their territory, and feed. They also keep their feathers in top condition by bathing and preening. If it's cold or or wet, the males get quieter as they focus on feeding and taking shelter in thick conifer branches. Look and listen carefully and you may see and hear these differences yourself!
"I've heard the robin in the past week but only saw it today, turning over leaves in the back yard and checking out the birdbath. The snow is almost gone; it's sunny and 10 degrees. Spring is here at last."
