How can you tell a female from a male robin? Look at their plummage. A female's feathers will appear faded and washed out compared to the darker, richer colors of a male. When you can identify individual robins, you can look for similarities and differences in their behavior, too.

"Noticed a male in the birdbath and a waiting female several feet away, on a branch. The male then went to the lawn and the female went in the birdbath for a minute. Then she went to the lawn and he went back to the birdbath," reported Tedd Stawski from New Kensington, Pennsylvania on March 29th.
