Symbolic Monarchs in Mexico

Consuelo R. de Fernández Albarrán Elementary 4th GradeB
These forth graders shared similar activities and astonishments about the monarch migration and life cycle. They were excited to volunteer and show what they learned. The children were curious about how their Ambassador butterflies arrived to México, how monarchs lived and reproduced along their migration routes north, and if it would be possible to breed caterpillars here in México as they do in the North!

This day students spent dedicated time to write a good letter with a nice drawing to the students in the US and Canada. Each student was so proud of their butterfly. Students showed their butterflies to their friends and then happily showed Estela the gifts they received inside their butterflies.

July, a girl in the class with a slight intellectual handicapped went from being very shy and quiet, to smiling and rejoicing. She showed great interest and joy with the lessons and the Ambassador butterfly she received.

As Estela prepared to leave the students waved excitedly to her and for the picture that is in this report.

* Note from Estela: In this state, there is special assistance for children like July, but not in the schools. These children receive assistance from the Health Ministry in town.  July attends therapy since she is a little child, but is not prepared to reach academical level. However these children are allowed to attend normal school classes because there is no special school in our small villages or towns, only in big cities.
