The children were astonished about the many new facts about the monarchs' life cycle. They learned how the Oyamel trees play such an important role in the overwintering sites in our region. Most were astonished to learn that female monarchs leave pregnant when they leave our region, and give birth to a new life cycle with a first generation. They were thrilled to learn that the monarch generation that visits us every year is so incredibly special.

In the final photo of this slide show, the Director of the school, teacher Ma. de Lourdes Valdés Salinas, asked to express, in the name of all teachers and students, her gratitude for the visit of Journey North (she and her teachers made lots of photos and video while Estela visited each group). She asked the program to please come back next year, so that the community learns more and more about these important topics for the survival of monarchs and the livelihood for inhabitants of our region. She said that because the government probably would not come and teach students here at the school that she was especially grateful for the Journey North Symbolic Migration program.
