Symbolic Monarchs in Mexico

San Luis Community Elementary School - Sixth Grade
This school is located in the first belt surrounding territory to Sanctuary "El Rosario."

For years Journey North has visited this school with Monarchs and habitat conservation topics. Although they welcome us in, it has not been easy to get the director and teachers’ enthusiasm for the topics. Unlike almost all of the schools we visit this school is indeed an exception.

Unfortunately the facilities, hygiene, discipline and classrooms reflect not the “touch” of a school in real progress in all senses as most of the surrounding school do.

This time, the Director allowed us to only work with 6th. grade.  The children, however, were as all children from all schools, thrilled to see us arriving with their Ambassador Monarchs. They totally enjoyed our learning time together, which is why Journey North knocks the door at this school every single year.

Children amazed to see their Ambassador Monarchs and letters arriving to their school!  They immediately started to run, to shout to each other telling the big news and wondering who would be the fortunate ones to get one letter and one Ambassador Monarch this season!. As Estela let them go through the basket seeing them, looking at the maps and answering a shower of questions, this breaktime today for them was so special

The 6th graders learning this season of the importance of a healthy thick-wooden forest and the great importance of canopy in it. The forest is vital for the survival of so many species, --Monarchs among them--!

Children thrilled to receive their letters coming from children living along the Monarchs migration corridor!  They couldn’t believe, once they knew how important the Time Magazine is, that Monarchs even got a space in a special supplement of that Magazine in US!
