Symbolic Monarchs in Mexico

Consuelo Fernández Albarrán Elementary - Third Grade, Group A
Consuelo Fernández Albarrán is located in San José del Rincón, near sanctuary Sierra Chincua, and lies near the borders dividing the States of México and Michoacán. This school has an enormous population, around 250 students whose families own agricultural and forest land around. More than ever, delivering the message of Habitat Conservation for Monarchs and for the future of our own region is vital.

Today it is December 12th, the second most important day of the year for the Catholic community in México. This is the dogma of the divine apparition of the Virgin of Guadalupe after the Birth of Jesus Christ.  At most homes in our region, and all over México, families spent the whole night before this day, singing, praying and placing flowers to its image as part of our traditions.

Most children, inspired in the reflection of the presentation this season, on the meaning of a healthy forest and canopy, ask to decorate their letter with the way they want to see a nature surrounding in the future, for them and their families.

Most of them know about the importance of a healthy forest for Monarchs habitat and for the equilibrium of our ecosystem, but almost none were really conscious of the importance of an abundant and healthy canopy all around as part of this equilibrium.

The child with the sign hanging from his neck reading “Promotor de la Paz”, together with other graders, are in charge of promoting this value during the week at their classrooms.

All of the students were amazed to learn their Ambassador Monarchs came from so many different states and cities in United States and Canada!
