Consuelo Fernández Albarrán Elementary - Third Grade, Group A
Consuelo Fernández Albarrán is located in San José del Rincón, near sanctuary Sierra Chincua, and lies near the borders dividing the States of México and Michoacán. This school has an enormous population, around 250 students whose families own agricultural and forest land around. More than ever, delivering the message of Habitat Conservation for Monarchs and for the future of our own region is vital.

Once at the classroom introducing the topic of Monarchs and their habitat, children excitedly raise their hands to express how their families’ living is also related to forest activities. They share how their parents and grandpas care now about restoring those areas to preserve for the long-future term. The class are really proud to come to the front and participate, pointing to the main facts in the migration map, in the Monarch Life-cycle poster, and in the photos of forest conditions. 

They worked hard designing and decorating their letters, and commenting to their school friends in Canada and US. They shared about the atypical storm we had in March 2016, where a considerable percentage of Monarchs died due to the intense wind and frosting conditions for a longer time than they can stand.

The classroom received the game gift of “México y sus riquezas”, as a contribution to enhancing culture and reading for students and teachers at every school visited.
