Symbolic Monarchs in Mexico

Consuelo Fernández Albarrán Elementary - Fifth Grade
Consuelo Fernández Albarrán is located in San José del Rincón, near sanctuary Sierra Chincua, and lies near the borders dividing the States of México and Michoacán. This school has an enormous population, around 250 students whose families own agricultural and forest land around. More than ever, delivering the message of Habitat Conservation for Monarchs and for the future of our own region is vital.

In a similar way, these graders who are between 11-12 years old show themselves to be highly interested in the aspects of conservaton of our Natural Surroundings.  Most of them, whose parents and grandparents have lived from forest benefits over the last decades, express seeing with alarm, the way information sources speak about how mankind is so quickly running out of natural resources.  They highly praise that Monarchs have brought a big change to our region and are fully aware of the compromise we three countries have acquired at keeping their habitat possible for them, and tell Estela things like:
When I grow older, no matter what my profession and where in a City I may live, the piece of land or forest I will inherit from my parents/grandparents, I want it to look at least as it looks now;  I want to construct a lovely hut and have a background of thick forest behind; I want the river nearby to still carry cristaline water, have birds singing in the mornings and see Monarchs passing by every November and March as we see them up to now.

To which Estela answers: “If we really care about it, we should start by doing very local actions, contributing to improving our minds and behavior in every little thing to preserve and care about;  nothing around us which is green, nothing which moves, should be damaged in any way!!!  Every tiny animal or plant play an extremely important role in this magic equilibrium from which Monarchs are such an important part of in our local Ecosystem.

The farewell moment is full of applauses, hugs and promises from children to the visit of this year to this highly crowded school, in which hands the future of important extents of land and forests affecting Monarchs should be.
