Lázaro Cárdenas Elementary, Grades 5 and 6
Lázaro Cárdenas Elementary is located in Santa Cruz del Tejocote Community, a territory to San José del Rincón Municipality, State of México. It is this area which the forest-mountain chain is the back sheltering forests to Sierra Chincua Sanctuary. The wind and hail storm last March 2016, caused a substantial devastation and the area sees a lot of illegal logging.

It takes around one hour of driving through the mountain paths here behind Sierra Chincua Sanctuary, to reach these back surrondings.

Although there is a sign at the entrance - "Acceso Gratuito a Internet," saying there is free internet connection, it is not working.  The school does not have a computer.  Children in their homes are not having a computer either.  Rather simple technology cellular phones are now becoming popular for some of them.

The presentation concentrated today on the importance of a thick, healthy forest and canopy for Monarchs and for our own ecosystem equilibrium.  The aspects of polinization process seemed extremely interesting for them, though they’ve learned from it through their books in the classroom. Seems that refreshing the topic to them was really good and effective.  Children and teachers said at the end of it : “Thank you!. We learned a lot today!. We promise we will change many of our everyday behaviours and will talk to our parents about it”.
